Open Source events to attend in 2023 - Part 2

As promised, I am sharing more Open Source conferences happening in 2023. If you haven't read my previous blog post which is part 1 of this blog post, check it out here.

One tip for making the best out of this list is to be sure to check out the call for proposals, grants and or find other ways to participate.

DjangoCon Europe

Date: 29th May - 2nd June || Mode: In-person || Venue: Edinburgh, Scotland.

DjangoCon Europe is an opportunity to meet community members and enthusiasts of Django in Europe and beyond. There will be talks, tutorials and sprints that will help advance the use of Django while also encouraging Open Source contributions.

OSCA Fest

Date: 15th - 17th June || Mode: In-person || Venue: Lagos, Nigeria.

OSCA Fest is an Open Source Festival, organized by the Open Source Community Africa (OSCA) aimed at bringing open source closer to Africans. It promises to share knowledge through talks, workshops and sprints.

Embedded Open Source Summit

Date: 27th - 30th June || Mode: Hybrid || Venue: Prague, Czech Republic.

Embedded Open Source Summit is an event bringing together creators and enthusiasts of Open Source embedded projects to share and collaborate.

Afro Python

Date: 22nd July || Mode: In Person || Venue: Salvador, Bahia - Brazil.

Afro Python is an event bringing the black population together to encourage them in the areas of Information Technology.

Open Source Days

Date: 6th August || Mode: In Person || Venue: Los Angeles, California.

Open Source Days is an event that celebrates free and open-source programs for creating digital content, including animation and visual effects.

EuroSciPy

Date: 14th - 18th August || Mode: In-person || Venue: Basel, Switzerland.

This event is for you if you use Python for scientific research! Users and creators of scientific instruments are among the individuals and organizations involved in academic research who come together for this event.

PyCon Australia

Date: 18th - 22nd August || Mode: In-person || Venue: Adelaide, Australia.

PyCon Australia, also known as PyCon AU is the gathering of the Python Software Community in Australia. This conference is expected to host beginner-friendly and in-depth talks on Python and the community. Additionally, there will be sprints and social events.

PyCon Portugal

Date: 7th - 9th September || Mode: In-person || Venue: Portugal.

PyCon Portugal is a 3-day conference packed with talks and workshops. These sessions include and are not limited to talks about Python internals and challenges in modern development and the Python Community.

PyData Amsterdam

Date: 14th - 16th September || Mode: In-person || Venue: Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

PyData Amsterdam is an event for folks interested in everything data. This conference promises to be educative and involving. It's noteworthy to note that the PyData groups use a variety of languages to approach data science, including but not limited to Python, Julia, and R.

PyCon India

Date: 29th September - 2nd October || Mode: In-person || Venue: Hyderabad, India.

PyCon India is the gathering of the Python Software Community in India! Be ready to experience projects, talks, workshops, and network with professionals in the world of Python.

PyCon South Africa

Date: 5th - 6th October || Mode: Hybrid || Venue: Durban, South Africa.

This is an opportunity to meet and interact with Pythonistas, particularly in South Africa.

CityJS Lagos

Date: 12th - 14th October || Mode: Hybrid || Venue: Lagos, Nigeria.

This conference is about everything Javascript. Meet and learn from like-minded people interested in Javascript frameworks and the community.

PyTorch Conference 2023

Date: 16th - 17th October || Mode: In-person || Venue: San Francisco, California.

PyTorch Conference will bring together the community and enthusiasts interested in advancing PyTorch through discussions, panels, poster sessions etc.

PyCon APAC

Date: 27th - 29th October || Mode: In-person || Venue: TOC Ariake Convention Hall, Japan.

PyCon APAC is the regional counterpart of PyCon in Asia-Pacific. It is hosted in one of the following countries every year: Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan, India and Bangladesh

PyCon APAC 2023 is hosted by the PyCon Japan Association, which is an organization for Python enthusiasts and users in Japan.

Open Source in Finance Forum

Date: 1st November || Mode: In-person || Venue: New York, USA.

Interested in learning how Open Source is driving innovation in Finance? The Open Source in Finance Forum is the place for you. Meet and engage with the community with experts across financial services and Open Source.

SeaGL

Date: 3rd - 4th November || Mode: Hybrid || Venue: Seattle, Washington.

SeaGL (The Seattle GNU/Linux) is an Open Source conference committed to educating people about Open Source hardware, software, culture and communities.

GitHub Universe

Date: 8th - 9th November || Mode: Hybrid || Venue: San Francisco

GitHub Universe is an annual developer event, organized by GitHub to bring people together, to learn and share experiences delivered by different speakers worldwide.

This year's theme is focused on AI, Security and Developer Experience, so do well to send a talk proposal if you have something to share in these areas. If you need tips on how to submit a great proposal, check this out here.

DjangoCon Africa

Date: 6th - 11th November || Mode: In-person || Venue: Zanzibar, Tanzania.

DjangoCon Africa 2023 is the first ever DjangoCon event happening in Africa and it promises to be educative and welcoming to people of all skill levels with Django. Keep an eye out for the Call for Proposals and the Opportunity Grant if you need funding to be able to attend.

I hope you find a way to contribute to open source when you attend any of the conferences above through talk presentations, panel discussions, poster presentations, sprints etc.. It is a great way to build on your skills and network.
