Participating in conferences and summits allows you to explore new challenges, meet new and prospective employers, help you build a professional network, and helps boost your confidence.

What are some of the activities you can do to participate in a conference?

Below are some Open Source conferences and events to expect in 2023. Be sure to check out the call for proposals and or find other ways to participate.

Open Research Webinar

Date: 24th January || Mode: Virtual

Open Research Webinars focus on state-of-the-art open-source research that helps shape the future of open-source software and the IT industry.

Laracon EU

Date: 26th - 27th January || Mode: In-person || Venue: Lisbon, Portugal.

Laracon is an event that brings together people who are passionate about using and building applications with the Laravel Framework.

Android Day 2023 on Google Open Source Live

Date: 2nd February || Mode: Virtual

This event will share updates about Cloud Android, help attendees learn Crosvm etc. After the live session, there will be a Q&A session and after-party fun.

The EU Open Source Policy Summit

Date: 3rd February || Mode: In-person || Venue: Brussels, Belgium.

According to the website "The EU Open Source Policy Summit, 2023 will explore Europe’s opportunities when leveraging these modes of technological collaboration at scale. Looking at digital policy through this lens, open and collaborative innovation is a source of optimism."

Flutter Global Summit

Date: 7th - 8th February || Mode: Virtual

This event is organized to share all the latest updates of Flutter. It is free for Junior Developers but paid for Senior Developers, CTOs and Founders.

The Open Metaverse Conference

Date: 8th - 9th February || Mode: Hybrid (In-person and Virtual) || Venue: Hudson Loft • 1200 S. Hope Street, Los Angeles, California - USA.

This conference is for you if you are interested in technologies centred around the metaverse, web3, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, gaming etc.

UX360 Research Summit

Date: 15th - 16th February || Mode: Virtual

UX360 will bring together researchers in the design and user experience fields to network and inspire others. Expect presentations from the world's largest design brands and reputable UX researchers in the industry.

PyCon Namibia

Date: 21st - 23rd February || Mode: In-person || Venue: Windhoek, Namibia.

PyCon Namibia is a conference for Python programmers in Namibia and beyond, to share knowledge through talks, tutorials, workshops and sprints.

City JS

Date: 28th - 31st March || Mode: In-person || Venue: London, United Kingdom.

City JS is an opportunity to meet software engineers to learn about Javascript, its frameworks, the latest releases and changes and much more. This is done through talks, workshops and other activities.

KubeCon Europe

Date: 17th - 21st April || Mode: In-person || Venue: Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon provides a platform where folks interested in Kubernetes, DevOps, and other related topics come together to share relevant information and insights.

Linux App Summit

Date: 21st - 23rd April || Mode: Hybrid (In-person and Virtual) || Venue: Brno, Czech Republic

The Linux App Summit is bringing together developers, designers etc. who are interested in sharing and listening to talks within the Linux ecosystem. This event is free to attend.

Open Source 101

Date: 18th April || Mode: In-person || Venue: Downtown Charlotte, North Carolina - USA.

Open Source 101 is a conference that covers the basics of open source on topics related to the open web, open source communities, processes and tools.

PyCon US

Date: 19th April - 27th April || Mode: Hybrid (In-person and Virtual)|| Venue: Saltlake City, Utah.

PyCon US is the largest gathering of the Python Software Community. This conference will be filled with tutorial sessions, workshops, poster sessions, a job fair and many other activities. PyCon US 2023 will mark and celebrate 20 years of impact, so be ready to experience an even more impact and fun-filled event.

Write The Docs

Date: 7th - 9th May || Mode: In-person || Venue: Portland, Oregon - USA.

Write the docs is a conference focused on software documentation. If you are interested in specializing as a Technical Writer, this conference is highly recommendable.

Open Source Summit (North America)

Date: 10th - 12th May || Mode: In-person || Venue: Vancouver, Canada.

Open Source Summit is an event for open source enthusiasts, advocates, developers, community builders, and technologists, to network and share ideas that will lead to innovation in this domain.

International PHP Conference

Date: 22nd - 26th May || Mode: Hybrid (In-person or Virtual) || Venue: Berlin, Germany.

The IPC PHP Conference helps attendees learn about the latest features of PHP, and discover the exciting ways PHP can be combined with other technologies such as Symfony, Docker, Kubernetes, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

Red Hat Summit

Date: 23rd - 25th May || Mode: In-person**|| Venue:** Boston, Massachusetts - USA.

Red Hat Summit brings together a diversity of open source advocates, practitioners, enthusiasts, partners etc to exchange ideas, network and help shape the future of open source technologies.

Embedded Open Source Summit

Date: 27th - 30th June || Mode: Hybrid (In-person or Virtual) || Venue: Prague, Czech Republic or Online

Embedded Open Source Summit (EOSS) is an opportunity to connect and meet with other embedded project leaders and developer communities.

FOSS4G

Date: 26th June/2nd July || Mode: In-person**|| Venue:** Prizren, Kosovo.

FOSS4G is the annual event organized by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) since 2006 and one of the largest global meetings on geospatial software of the year.

DjangoCon US

Date: Yet to be announced || Mode: In-person || Venue: North Carolina - USA.

DjangoCon US is an international conference about the Django web framework, held each year in North America. It is an opportunity for people who develop Django applications to network with others through talks, tutorials, and sprints.

KubeCon North America

Date: 6th - 10th November || Mode: In-person || Venue: Chicago, Illinois - USA.

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon provides a platform where folks interested in Kubernetes, DevOps, and other related topics come together to share relevant information and insights.
